Top Ten Tuesday – Underrated Books

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

With Top Ten Tuesday on a break until August 15th, I wanted to pick some of the older one’s I’ve missed. I can’t wait to bring these to you guys.

Why do people sleep on this series? It’s all about girl power and being who you are. There’s queer characters and plenty of real life issues. Not to mention how cute the art is. I love all of these characters and all the wacky adventures they get themselves into. From mermaids, to roller derby against sasquatches for a tree house. Pick these up.

This entire series is delicious. From a pan character, to swoons worthy romances, pick this up. They deal with college problems, real life problems, and feelings. Plus Conner is everything. You all need Conner in your life.

Queer clock spirit and a gorgeous cover? This was utterly magical and I ship them so hard. I don’t know why more of you aren’t squealing about this one.

This is such an important read. This is a truthful depiction of mental illness and self harm. It’s not an easy read, but I really think everyone needs to read it.

This was the gone girl I wanted and never got. It keeps you guessing the whole time and I couldn’t put it down. Need a mystery? Pick up this baby

Queer teen, hockey, and twins? I was lucky enough to win an annotated arc of this book which made it even more fun to read. This was just a really great read. It deals with a very real world issue, being gay in professional sports.

This is an important book about consequences and sitting silently. This is a better version of 13 Reasons Why. It deals with the important topic of suicide without all the problems of the more popular book.

We need more stories about anxiety, especially severe anxiety. This shows one of the many ugly sides of anxiety. I sometimes feel like Mallory and I just can’t leave my house. The important topic is broken up with her obsession with space and UFOs. I just loved absolutely everything about this book.

More strong females and historical fiction like this, please. Vicky is the very definition of strong female. From posing nude in a time women hardly showed their ankles, art school, to getting involved in the suffragette movement, Vicky reminds us of how far women have come. But also how far we still have to go.

I loved this one as much as The Book Thief. This was a compelling story of humans who face impossible choices, and what they will do. You just need to pick this one up.

What books do you think enough people haven’t read? What books do you think are overrated?
